- What new services or activities did you establish at your school?
Marlborough College Malaysia has been at the forefront of positive wellbeing practice in the international community, winning a Strategic Leadership Award in 2022 for our success. Based on Martin Selignam’s concept of Positive Psychology, MCM appointed a Researcher in Residence, Diana Trif, with a Masters in Applied Positive Psychology from the University of Pennsylvania, mentored by Mr Seligman himself. For two years, Ms Trif embedded Positive Psychology into the College curriculum, and established a Wellbeing programme intended to build an effective Positive Education model for MCM. This initiative has been regognised internationally by the Council of British International Schools (COBIS) as a first-class model of how wellbeing should be integrated in schools.
In addition to this, within the Senior School, the College aims to develop skills that will be useful for pupils’ futures. One such service we provide is the Ivy House Leadership Programme. This highly acclaimed award focuses on the nurturing and development of self-awareness, confidence and leadership skills that will be used in school, university, business and beyond.
- Please mention what steps are you taking beyond the traditional curriculum to ensure overall development of the students?
At Marlborough College Malaysia we understand the importance of holistic learning in every aspect of education and we pride ourselves on the support offered to our pupils. Our aim is to develop not only academic excellence, but to provide opportunities for pupils to explore their talents and develop their own skill sets inside and outside of the classroom. From biological exploration on the lake, to Educational Visits around the world learning how to ski, kayak or experience different environments, MCM truly values a wealth of experiences to enhance our pupils’ education.
MCM also prioritises pastoral care, offering support services such as counseling, academic mentoring, and extra tuition to ensure our students have the resources they need to succeed. This award-winning pastoral care is equally embedded in our Positive Psychology programme, ensuring all pupils flourish throughout their time at the College.
- What steps does the school take to motivate and develop the students’ interest towards education?
Pupils at Marlborough College Malaysia grow and develop with a passion for learning, from their earliest years at the College, to their final day. Igniting this passion comes naturally for our excellent Beaks (teachers) with their wealth of knowledge and experience. With a fit-for-purpose and future-proof style of teaching and learning that is not channelled exclusively towards exams, but to problem solving and creative thinking.
Through the provision of a supportive learning environment equipped with state-of-the-art technology and resources that foster curiosity, creativity, and independent thinking, pupils at MCM are able to develop their interests across curriculum subjects and beyond. Pupils are taught by specialist teachers from Pre-Prep to Senior, with all subjects taught by specialists from Year 5 onwards. Pupils receive a great amount of agency, from choosing their interests to attending meetings to decide on changes to food, boarding, management and more.
Additionally, our diverse range of co-curricular activities, including sports, music, drama, art, and community service projects, allow students to pursue their passions and challenge themselves, all in the pursuit of academic excellence and holistic development.

Marlborough College Malaysia fosters a culture of philanthropy and generosity, best seen in our Outreach programme throughout the whole College. Under the direction of the Charity Committee and CAS (Creativity, Action and Service) projects in the Senior School pupils are continuously encouraged to engage with the local community in whichever way they can. This year, pupils have hosted music sessions teaching students at local schools how to play musical instruments, fundraised for various charities including those to help Johor flood victims, and donated hundreds of present-laden shoeboxes for children at Christmas time. Many of these contributions are overseen not only by our pupils, but by our designated Charity Committee who strive to raise money for charitable organisations. Our pupils focus on more than just raising money, but actively get involved with the local community to help where they can to truly make a difference.
