Introduction:

In my professional journey, I have learnt essential lessons and developed new interests that have formed the basis for my career growth. My path into school leadership began as an unconventional one, shaped by my pursuit of passion and the desire to make a meaningful impact. From aspirations of becoming a doctor in university which I quickly discovered wasn’t my path , to navigating the fields of economics and corporate   banking which I wasn’t fully convinced was my calling, my journey ultimately led me to several roles in Human Resources.  While pursuing a career in Human resources, my commitment to building relationships, strategic planning, and creating positive transformations guided me through diverse sectors, including renowned organizations like McKinsey & Company, Oando PLC, Deloitte, and Heirs Holding Oil & Gas. Looking back on my decisions and experiences, it’s rewarding to see how they’ve come together, preparing and guiding me for the exciting journey into educational leadership.

One of my greatest contributions to Bloombreed Schools has been the installation of structure, creativity, and data analysis into all our operations. By fostering innovation and embracing diverse perspectives, we have overhauled and automated processes, defined clear value propositions for sports and extracurricular activities, enhanced staff welfare programs, and implemented new guides for all programs. The positive shift in the overall school culture and the alignment of the school’s vision are testaments to the impact of these changes, made possible with the steadfast support of the leadership team.

Challenges and Resolution Strategies:

In the evolving landscape of education, challenges often revolve around resistance to structure and change. However, by maintaining composure, documenting overall goals, seeking expert advice, and involving key leaders in decision-making processes, these challenges become opportunities for growth for staff and the school.  In developing strategic solutions to change, it’s also important to prioritize adaptability and flexibility because this ensures a proactive and quick response to other evolving circumstances that can drive continuous improvement.

Motivation and Professional Goals:

My motivation lies in problem-solving—the construction of blueprints and successful resolution of challenges. Every problem, as a past CEO insightfully mentioned, has an expiry date, and this perspective empowers me to believe in finding solutions. Looking ahead, my professional goals for the next 5 to 10 years include assuming a central role in driving educational reforms in Nigeria, with a specific emphasis on implications for public institutions. Expanding Bloombreed’s influence and actively contributing to education reforms are integral to my aspirations.

Influence and Legacy:

The commitment to education is deeply rooted in memories of my late mother- Olufunke Sunmonu who founded Bloombreed Schools.  She entrusted me with the responsibility to continue her legacy in the expansion of Bloombreed Schools and addressing challenges within schools. Additionally, serving on the Board for Teach for Nigeria has significantly influenced my journey toward becoming an educator, allowing me to contribute to education reforms within the public sector.

A Message to Students Universally:

As students face diverse circumstances that can either propel or hinder their education, the evolving landscape of technology presents an opportunity to establish an equitable educational platform. We can guide students toward unlocking their maximum capabilities by rejecting labels and working together to provide suitable resources. Zoe’s expertise in education and teaching forms the pedagogical foundation, leading to high-quality educational programs and distinctive learning experiences for children. Serendipity Montessori has recently introduced a groundbreaking Elementary program, a significant milestone in our educational journey. Building on our one of a kind educational program for younger children, this innovative initiative has enabled older children to continue their quality education, creating a dynamic learning environment where children up to nine years old thrive with boundless enthusiasm. It’s truly heartening to witness our students who started with us at a young age continue to flourish, embracing a life filled with richness, curiosity, and endless possibilities within our educational community.

Serendipity Montessori’s sponsoring program is designed to support children who are a great fit for our program but may not have the financial means to attend. We provide one free-of-charge space for three consecutive years to one child at each age level, ensuring more children access to a quality Montessori education. The program’s anonymity ensures that these children and their families can benefit without feeling singled out or stigmatized.

7. What are some ways you keep up with changes in education trends?

We do so via several methods, including teacher education days, an annual three day school workshop in the mountains, participation in educational book clubs, and attending specialized workshops based on individual interests, such as bilingualism or Montessori.

Recent Facilites

Most recently, we have opened The Hub, our brand-new Design Technology, Computer Science and Film facilities where all our students can thrive and boost their creativity to the maximum. Thanks to The Hub, students and teachers can push the boundaries of technology and enjoy new unique learning experiences.

Whether it’s in wood crafting, digital design, coding or filming, students are free to work on their own projects and improve their problem solving, creative thinking, digital skills and collaboration.

Recent Activities:

At Beau Soleil, we offer our students the chance to participate in professional learning programmes designed to provide real-life experience and qualifications. A prime example is our student-led, not-for-profit coffee company, 17g Coffee. Through this initiative, our students gain qualifications as baristas and roasters. They collaborate with local farmers for sourcing and partner with other businesses to market and sell their coffee. This is just one of the many professional learning programmes we provide.

At Beau Soleil our educational philosophy encourages students, who come from more than 50 different nations, to be the best they can be.  We believe it’s what you do that counts.

With a capacity of only 300 students, we create a family atmosphere where each student is offered individual attention and a home-from-home boarding experience.

Exciting experiences both inside and outside of the classroom — from extended curriculum days to educational trips across the world, full-school challenges and our winter ski programme — help our students to develop a greater understanding and appreciation of the world around them and to develop skills including teamwork, collaboration and resilience, important for their future.

Beau Soleil is a school where our students’ experiences are way beyond those of a normal boarding school. We are fortunate not to have to follow other trends.  Our mission is to find the best of education, from inside and outside, and apply and innovate it to create a new school environment for our students.  Staff and students are encouraged and supported in new directions for education.

Step One International School is a primary school, offering students Cambridge Primary Curriculum. It was established to provide a comprehensive and challenging academic educational program to motivate and enable students to pursue preparatory studies in Science, Math, English, and Technology.

The school owner is Mrs. Mariam Al Kuwari and the school principal and executive director is Mrs. Rim Kabbara. The two leaders work on achieving the school mission and vision focused on student success and positive wellbeing and mental health. 

• What new services or activities did you establish at your school?

• SIS collaborated with Carnegie Mellon University in Doha over the past 3 years in the application of ALICE programming curriculum for Year 6 students as part of the students computing and digital skills curriculum which proved to be greatly beneficial. 
• SIS had established a strong partnership with Al Arabi Sports Club which resulted in many of our talented students to be selected and adopted by Al Arabi Club and became part of the basketball national team of Qatar.

• Please mention what steps are you taking beyond the traditional curriculum to ensure overall development of the students?

SIS teachers are adopting various strategies and approaches to ensure the students academic and social development:

• Flipped Classroom Approach and Project Based Learning methods are among the strategies adopted by teachers to ensure the learning is student centered.
• STEAM activities and Lego Education 2.0 have proven its effectiveness in broadening our students’ critical thinking and problem solving skills.
• GATE program (in Art, Maths and Drama) helps cater for Gifted and Talented students and is developed to nurture students’ abilities and talents.

 Over the past two years, our school has achieved several noteworthy milestones and accolades. Here are some of the major awards, achievements, and notable events:

Academically, the school always  gets selected by the Ministry of Education and Higher Education to take part in the International Assessments of PIRLS and TIMSS and the results reflect the high level of student preparedness and learning achieved in the areas of English, Math and Science. The school received letters of commendation from the ministry of education for scoring higher than the international and national norms and for excelling in the area of English language proficiency.

SIS program currently  serves students in Years 1– 6. The school is in the process of applying for the secondary level in an estimation to open a new campus for Year 7-12 students in the upcoming years.
